This week, something historic happened, and most of the media won’t even talk about it.
The U.S. Senate officially advanced legislation to cut federal funding for NPR and PBS, marking the beginning of the end for the taxpayer-funded media machine that has long masked itself as “neutral.” President Trump is expected to sign the rescission bill this coming Friday, clearing it for enactment.
Let me be clear, this is not about silencing voices. It’s about ending forced taxpayer sponsorship of political propaganda.
What the Legislation Actually Does and Why It Matters to You
This wasn’t just a symbolic vote. It was a direct hit to the financial core of public broadcasting, which has been funded with your tax dollars for decades.
1. Senate Rescission Bill (Passed July 17, 2025)
Congress passed a $9 billion rescission package, pulling back unspent federal funds from earlier budget cycles.
Out of that, $1.1 billion was eliminated from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), the primary source of federal support for PBS and NPR stations.
The House passed the bill by a vote of 216 to 213. The Senate followed with a 51 to 48 vote.
Once signed into law, these cuts will take effect on October 1, 2025, removing virtually all federal dollars flowing to public broadcasting.
Bottom line: If you pay federal income tax, you’ve been directly subsidizing NPR and PBS, whether you agreed with their content or not.
2. Executive Order 14290 — Trump’s Media Defunding Blueprint
On May 1, 2025, President Trump issued Executive Order 14290, directing all federal agencies to halt direct and indirect funding to media organizations that exhibit persistent political bias while claiming neutrality.
NPR and PBS have filed lawsuits challenging the order, citing the Public Broadcasting Act of 1967.
But no matter how the legal battles play out, Congress has already reinforced the president’s directive with legislative action.
What Taxpayers Were Actually Paying For
For decades, NPR and PBS branded themselves as trusted sources of news. But what did your tax dollars really fund?
NPR labeled the Hunter Biden laptop story as “Russian disinformation” weeks before the 2020 election.
PBS aired segments portraying concerned school board parents as potential “domestic threats.”
Both outlets routinely advanced progressive narratives while treating conservative viewpoints as dangerous misinformation.
These were not honest editorial decisions. They were taxpayer funded campaigns to push a leftist agenda and pure propaganda.
A Promise Made, A Promise Kept
This defunding wasn’t incidental. It was a campaign promise.
President Trump said he would end taxpayer funding for media outlets that no longer serve the people and instead serve a political agenda.
Now, through executive action and congressional support, that promise is being fulfilled.
This is what it looks like when a president takes on the machine and follows through.
For too long, Americans have watched leaders talk tough and then back down.
Not this time.
Final Thought
This isn’t about revenge.
It’s about restoring trust in a media environment where truth has been filtered, dissent has been labeled, and citizens were expected to pay for the very voices that silenced them.
We were told this was public service broadcasting.
What it became was taxpayer-funded narrative control. Now, the propaganda engine is shutting down.
And in its place, we have the opportunity to build something better. Something that allows real American voices to be heard and forces lawmakers to listen or be held accountable during primaries.
Why only $1.1 billion? I don’t think any of our tax payer dollars should go to media
Why has the Fedral Communication Comission not taken probationary action against these mainstream media outlets for continuing to push a narrative that has simply been proven by fact as blatant lie's?
